Warrior Evolution MMA was built on more than techniques. It was built on the knowledge, philosophy, discipline, and example of the instructors who came before us.
At the foundation of our martial arts philosophy is Bruce Lee and his development of Jeet Kune Do—an approach centered on adaptability, simplicity, efficiency, and freedom from the limitations of any single fighting style. That philosophy was carried forward by Bruce Lee’s student Dan Inosanto, whose teachings helped preserve the idea that a martial artist should continue learning, evolving, and drawing from multiple disciplines.
That philosophy eventually became an important part of the training passed down to us through Coach Dion Riccardo, founder of Victory Martial Arts. Through his training under instructors including Ron Balicki and Dan Inosanto, Coach Dion developed a diverse approach to martial arts that blended striking and grappling systems including American Kickboxing, Western boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and MMA.
Coach Dion became one of the most influential instructors in our development. More than simply teaching us how to fight, he taught us how to think as martial artists, to understand distance, timing, movement, transitions, and the importance of never becoming limited by one style.
That knowledge continued through Coach Anthony Buoniconti, a longtime Victory Martial Arts instructor who trained under Coach Dion and became another important influence in our development. Through years of training and teaching, Coach Anthony helped reinforce the technical standards, discipline, and the success of the Amateur competitors from 2010 to 2013.
Another major branch of our MMA lineage comes from the late Coach Ed Kress, a lifelong martial artist, wrestler, coach, and longtime instructor at Degerberg Academy. Coach Kress played an important role in Coach Sean Lau’s early development as his high-school wrestling coach. The wrestling foundation he passed down— pressure, control, conditioning, toughness, and perseverance— remains deeply embedded in the way Warrior Evolution approaches MMA today.
These different influences eventually came together through Coach Sean Lau and the creation of Warrior Evolution MMA.
Our MMA system reflects that history. We train across disciplines including Boxing, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo, while maintaining the philosophy that martial arts is formless and must continue to evolve.
We respect tradition, but we are not confined by it.
We believe in learning what works, understanding why it works, and continuing to grow as athletes, coaches, and people.
Most importantly, we understand that lineage is not simply about where our techniques came from. It is about honoring the people who invested their knowledge into us and carrying their lessons forward.
The influence of Bruce Lee, Dan Inosanto, Dion Riccardo, Anthony Buoniconti, and Coach Ed Kress helped shape the foundation on which Warrior Evolution MMA stands by today.
Their lessons live on every time we teach a class, prepare an athlete for competition, help someone develop confidence, or welcome a new student onto the mats.
And now, every person who trains at Warrior Evolution becomes part of that lineage.
We honor those who came before us by continuing to learn, continuing to teach, and continuing to evolve.
